“Running administrative coordination by seniority makes sense. What I’d add is a distinction between coordination and decision-making … That’s not an objection. It’s a proposal.”

Recorded at squad formation, Bay 4

Supervisor notes

  1. Wk 1Entered through the cognitive track with no flight hours. Spatial reasoning well above cohort average. Recommend the tactical stream.
  2. Wk 1At squad formation, proposed that coordination and decision-making be treated as separate functions. The squad adopted it.
  3. Wk 2Observes more than she says. Asks questions she has clearly already half answered. Keeps a paper notebook (permitted).
  4. A&D

Lt. Carver · Squad Supervisor, Bay 4

Before the file

Kai grew up on Meridian Station, where her father taught her Vector Chess. When she was six, his ship went dark on the Earth-Mars corridor, and no one could tell her why.

Every year on her birthday she replays one of their old games. At ten, the replay showed her something that did not belong in a chess game: a pattern hidden in her father’s moves. That story is Dark Signal.

Three years later, at thirteen, she arrives at the Bastion Ring with a locked data chip and a question her father never got to answer. That story is Bastion Rising.
